Memory Box Program
The SCDP group has participated in the Memory Box program for many years as a way of reaching out to the community. SCDP members paint memory boxes that are given to parents who have lost babies at birth. The boxes are given to the parents to hold a hospital bracelet, lock of hair, blanket, clothing or any other memento the parents wish to keep. The boxes are donated to Long Beach Memorial Hospital. In 2023, the SCDP group donated 82 boxes to the hospital. Unfortunately, there is still a need for these boxes and our group continues to support this program.
SCDP will hold a quarterly "Memory Box Paint-Along" for members (February 5, April 1, August 5 and October 7, 2024) at 9:30 am -12 Noon on Zoom as an opportunity to get together to paint memory boxes and connect with our members. We do not have a teacher at the paint alongs; everyone paints on their own. A pattern is emailed to the membership as a suggestion ahead of the paint-along, or they may paint a design of their own choosing. Memory boxes are paper mâché and are available from Diana Ray, Memory Box Chair.
